Greg Camm Rises to the Challenge in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout

17-Jun-2011

Superpartners CEO, Greg Camm, braved a cold Melbourne night outdoors and raised over $4000 for St Vincent de Paul Society as part of the Vinnies CEO Sleepout.

The sleepout is held in every Australian state and challenges Australia’s business and community leaders to experience one night of homelessness.

The 176 participants heard from two ex-homeless people about their experiences of being homeless on a long term basis. For Superpartners CEO, Greg Camm, the experience was educational and very confronting.

“Listening to their stories really confronted me and my eyes are now opened to the real dangers of homelessness.  I really hadn’t appreciated that safety and fear is the biggest part of this serious issue.  When you’re sleeping rough, you aren’t just looking for somewhere warm and dry; you’re looking for safety,” said Greg.

“The thing I walked away with most of all, was admiration for the volunteers that work for Vinnies. They range from retired people who do it regularly, through to quite young people,” he said.

So far, the Vinnies CEO sleepout has raised almost $4 million which goes towards funding existing homeless services programs such as crisis accommodation, domestic violence support, life and occupational skills, legal advice and education.
